The Tampa Bay Lightning's Steven Stamkos has become the third-youngest player to score 50 goals in a National Hockey League season.

Canada's Stamkos, who was the first-overall selection in the 2008 NHL draft, hit the milestone Saturday when he scored his second goal of the Lightning's 4-3 shoot-out victory over the Florida Panthers. Stamkos also scored the only goal in the shoot-out.

Stamkos's 50th was a wrister from the point that went between the pads of Panthers goaltender Scott Clemmensen. It was his second power-play goal of the night.

The goal tied Stamkos with Washington's Alex Ovechkin for the NHL lead. Ovechkin scored his 50th on Friday night.

Stamkos, who was 20 years, two months and three days old on Saturday, is the third-youngest to reach the milestone. Only Wayne Gretzky and Jimmy Carson had 50-goal seasons when younger than Stamkos.
